A man has been shot dead by armed police in a “terror-related incident” on the busy Streatham high street in London.
The Metropolitan Police has said that a number of people, including a woman on her bicycle, have been stabbed at 2 pm on Streatham High Road. The incident has been declared as terrorist-related by Met police.
The circumstances are being assessed;
“We believe there are two injured victims. We await updates on their conditions,” police added in a later statement.
“We saw a guy with a huge knife, we heard the shouting, and saw police chase him down the street,” Timothy Hudson, a Streatham resident, told The Independent.
“The police were telling him to put the machete, or the big knife, to put it down, and then they shot him.” The Met Police has advised the public to avoid the area.
Graham Norton, London Ambulance Service strategic commander, said in a statement: “We were called at 1.58 pm today (2 February) to reports of an incident in Streatham High Road.
“We are working closely with the other emergency and are treating a number of patients at the scene.
“We will provide more details as soon as they are available.”
