Banksy’s latest artwork inspired by death of George Floyd

Banksy Revealed A Powerful New Artwork Inspired By The Black Lives Matter Movement

The famous street artist posted his new piece to Instagram on June 6, stating:

“At first I thought I should just shut up and listen to black people about this issue. But why would I do that? It’s not their problem. It’s mine. People of colour are being failed by the system. The white system. Like a broken pipe flooding the apartment of the people living downstairs. This faulty system is making their life a misery, but it’s not their job to fix it. They can’t – no-one will let them in the apartment upstairs. This is a white problem. And if white people don’t fix it, someone will have to come upstairs and kick the door in.”

George Floyd died after a Minneapolis police officer neck restrained him. In the days after the brutal incident, there have been massive protests around the world, London included. Just today, thousands gathered outside the US embassy in Vauxhall to protest racial inequality and the treatment of black people.

Banksy’s compelling artwork exhibits scenes of a vigil for a member of the black community, with a candle lighting an American flag.
