Plans revealed for London’s “Next Generation” theme park.

The London Resort, the UK’s answer to Disneyland, is a enormous “next generation theme park, set to cover the equivalent of 136 Wembley Stadiums

Since 2020 has become all about cancellations and closures, all eyes are on what will happen during 2021 in London. Here’s one that we weren’t expecting: work will begin next year at The London Resort, a vast theme park and water park on the banks of the Thames, covering 535 acres of land (that’s the same area as 136 Wembley Stadiums). The London Resort is located near Dartford, on the Swanscombe Peninsula, a 17-minute train ride from St Pancras. This will be Europe’s largest-scale theme park built since Disneyland Paris opened in 1992. That means London gets its own (sort of) Disneyland version.

The focus appears to be on the ‘next generation’ experiences in the park, which will be built in association with Paramount Pictures, the BBC and ITV Studios. An early rendering of the design of the park reveals plans for exciting areas such as The Jungle, an area filled with the ruin of a long-lost Mesoamerican civilisation, and a film-themed area called The Studio that promises big movie thrills of ‘high octane car chases and high-stakes surveillance.’ Then there’s Starport, a sci-fi landing zone of the 20th century. And it wouldn’t be a resort without a wide range of gift shops – you can find them in the High Street, a large square that will take visitors to shopping areas, restaurants, hotels and a mega water park.

Given its vast scale, it is expected that the construction will involve 30 000 people at the cost of around £3.5bn. PY Gerbeau, CEO of London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH) said, “We are creating one of the world’s most exciting park theme projects. The London Resort will be a theme park resort of the next generation, a world-class destination maximising a wide range of immersive, interactive technologies and experiences.

It will eventually be a two-park resort, with the opening of the first part in 2024, while the latter in 2029. Parents already exhausted at the thought of visiting: you have three years to prepare.
