Market on the Mews will take the Selfridges experience outdoors.
Over the years, Selfridges have made a fair amount of news on our pages, from their wisteria-draped restaurants to the pop-up coffee shop with a giant yellow slide, to their Christmas shop’s annual arrival (which comes earlier each year). They are now back with a first for the famous department store: an outdoor market called ‘Market on the Mews.’ Hidden behind their Oxford Street store in a pedestrianised street, the brand new weekend market of Selfridges will be launched on July 18 and filled with all kinds of covetable goods.
Market on the Mews was conceived with the local community in mind, but with the inclusion of bright yellow stalls, you can find a prominent Selfridges touch. You will also find plenty of post-pandemic touches, with perspex screens on each booth, market staff PPE, hand sanitiser stations, contactless payments, and a one-way market system. Numbers will also be limited, with only 16 customers being able to shop at any given time.
If you’re on the Mews market, you’ll find a treasure trove of food, beverages, plants, furniture and more. Among the vendors that will be in position for the seven-week run of the Market are Hackney Gelato, Two Tribes Craft Beer, Assembly Coffee (which roast their beans down in Brixton), fab florists Moyses Stevens, and the Selfridges Bakery. Their array of pretzels, doughnuts, bagels, brownies, and deli delicacies will provide the ideal market snack. Several pop-up stalls will also make an appearance all summer long, selling everything from magazines to bikes.
In Edwards Mews, behind the flagship Selfridges store, you’ll find Market on the Mews, just off Oxford Street. It kicks off on July 18 and will run from 9 am to 4 pm every Saturday and Sunday until August 30. There’s also the market promise of live entertainment and family activities that should be more than enough to keep you a-mews-ed throughout the weekend …
